Google Reader

Assignment: Google Reader

Due: June 3, 2010

Required Documentation:

Create a blog post that details which blog you picked and what you learned from reading it. You are required to Share something with someone.

- The two blogs that I chose to follow are Teacher Reboot Camp and The Innovative Educator. From reading Teacher Reboot Camp I learned about different ways to keep children active during the summer months when they aren't in school. This blog suggests to get the children set up with sites that offer educational activities for them to do during the summer months. It also talks about how you can use technology such as Nintendo DS, iTouch, iPhone, etc. to keep kids doing educational activities during the summer months. With this various pieces of technology you can download and/or buy various learning games. For DS, you can buy Brian Age which offers word and number puzzles, as well as math problems, and memory tests. There are these type of games available for all technology devices.

By reading The Innovative Educator I learned about various ways to incorporate technology into various educational classrooms. It talks about using the Interactive Whiteboard, by using various social websites such as Facebook and Twitter to incorporate into lessons, and also using Google, and Smart Pens to teach various lessons. By incorporating these pieces of technology into the classroom, you're able to keep the children's attention and also to teach them how to use something new. A couple examples on how to incorporate technology into the classrooms were to follow famous people on Twitter when talking about a certain topic, and to also create a Facebook mpage for a fictional character.

Learning Outcomes:

Q1. What is a blog syndication and how does it differ from your previous strategies for information gathering?

A1. Previous strategies for information gathering required you to visit a different website each time you needed to research of new topic, or to find a new piece of information. With blog syndication, you can view multiple websites including your topic of choice in one direct location, whether its by using Google Reader, or another RSS Feed Source.

Q2. What does RSS stand for?

A2. RSS stands for Rich Site Summary which allows you to retrieve all of the newest posts from the websites you choose in one central location such as Google Reader, without having to visit all of the sites individually to read the newest information.
