Google Reader

Assignment: Google Reader

Due: June 3, 2010

Required Documentation:

Create a blog post that details which blog you picked and what you learned from reading it. You are required to Share something with someone.

- The two blogs that I chose to follow are Teacher Reboot Camp and The Innovative Educator. From reading Teacher Reboot Camp I learned about different ways to keep children active during the summer months when they aren't in school. This blog suggests to get the children set up with sites that offer educational activities for them to do during the summer months. It also talks about how you can use technology such as Nintendo DS, iTouch, iPhone, etc. to keep kids doing educational activities during the summer months. With this various pieces of technology you can download and/or buy various learning games. For DS, you can buy Brian Age which offers word and number puzzles, as well as math problems, and memory tests. There are these type of games available for all technology devices.

By reading The Innovative Educator I learned about various ways to incorporate technology into various educational classrooms. It talks about using the Interactive Whiteboard, by using various social websites such as Facebook and Twitter to incorporate into lessons, and also using Google, and Smart Pens to teach various lessons. By incorporating these pieces of technology into the classroom, you're able to keep the children's attention and also to teach them how to use something new. A couple examples on how to incorporate technology into the classrooms were to follow famous people on Twitter when talking about a certain topic, and to also create a Facebook mpage for a fictional character.

Learning Outcomes:

Q1. What is a blog syndication and how does it differ from your previous strategies for information gathering?

A1. Previous strategies for information gathering required you to visit a different website each time you needed to research of new topic, or to find a new piece of information. With blog syndication, you can view multiple websites including your topic of choice in one direct location, whether its by using Google Reader, or another RSS Feed Source.

Q2. What does RSS stand for?

A2. RSS stands for Rich Site Summary which allows you to retrieve all of the newest posts from the websites you choose in one central location such as Google Reader, without having to visit all of the sites individually to read the newest information.

Personality Profile #2

Assignment: Personality Profile - Post #2 of 2

Due: May 31, 2010

Required Documentation:

In a separate blog post compare the results with your previous prognostication. Previous prognostication was "The Guardian." (Couldn't decide between "The Guardian" and "The Artisan" but ended up choosing "The Guardian.")

Q1. How close were you?

A1. After taking the personality test, I found out that according to the personality test, my temperament is "The Artisan." Guess I should've followed my first choice and gone with "The Artisan." Both "The Guardian" and "The Artisan" fit me pretty well, so I think that both of the choices are compatible with me.

Q2. How far off?

A2. I wasn't far off at all. I had a hard time choosing between the two, so even though I chose differently than the results of the quiz showed, I don't think I was far off because "The Artisan" was one I had to choose between.

Q3. How might you use the knowledge of your personality type, as informed by the your guess and the results of the survey to assist you in leading a class of students, a group of teachers, or a cadre of principles?

A3. Some of the characteristics of "The Artisan" are fun-loving, optimistic, focused on the here and now, creative parents, and troubleshooting leaders. So, if I was leading any of the groups mentioned in the question, I would be sure to be open-minded about everyone's opinions, thoughts, and feelings, and could have a good time sharing ideas, etc., but before the day was over I would want to have focused on the "here and now" and either solved an issue that was at hand or made some kind of progress on whatever we were doing.

Personality Profile #1

Assignment: Personality Profile - Post 1 of 2 required

Due: May 31, 2010

Required Documentation:

Create a blog post that reflects on your experience with personality tests (if any) and explain the rationale for your self-assess temperament.

I have not had much experience with personality tests, but I have taken a couple for various classes that I've been required to take over the last 3 years. My self-assessed temperament type is "The Guardian." I associate this with myself because I like being helpful and am often told I am hardworking. I will admit that I had time choosing between The Guardian and The Artisan, so I guess the personality test will tell me if either of those would've been the appropriate choice, or if neither of them were.

Q3. What does the term "browser war" mean and what drives the competition between web browsers? What is the big deal in having the #1 browser?

A3. A browser war is basically a "war" between two web browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.) who are basically competing to be the most used web browser. Being the #1 web browser, means you are being used most by people using web browsers.
