Jing Screen Cast

Assignment: Jing Screen Cast

Due: June 15, 2010

Required Documentation:

Create a screen cast (short movie) that displays how to do something on your computer. Look up a tip or trick for common activities and teach us something. Your movie should be screencasted and available on the web for public consumption. Create a blog post titled Jing Screen Cast that includes a link to your Screencast on the internet. Remember the content needs to be some computer activity that you are teaching and there is a 5 minute limit.

The video included below is the video I created for this assignment. It's a simple version of how to create a PowerPoint presentation, using simple features such as adding a text box, uploading an image, and using WordArt. This was my first attempt at ever using Jing Screencast, but I did what I could to make it interesting.

Jing Image

Assignment: Jing Image

Due: June 11, 2010

Required Documentation:

The first assignment is to create a graphic you may use to introduce and/or teach some concepts. F
ully exploit the image editing tools offered in Jing to create your graphic for teaching and learning including the text tool, the shape tool, and the arrow/line tools. You want to save you image to your computer and upload a small version to your blog post titled Jing Graphic. The goal here is to be able to create visual instructional materials that combine text and images.

My Jing graphic I created, shows the various buttons and features of Kindle for PC which can be downloaded through Amazon.com.

I would consider this to fall into the category of #3 - Model Digital-Age Work and Learning of the ISTE NETS T standards because this activity "communicates relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital-age media and formats. We are using the Jing program to create various forms of documentation on how to use various formats of technology.

Google Draw

Assignment: Google Draw

Due: June 10, 2010

Required Documentation:

Create a blog post that reflects on your experience with different drawing tools. Which ones have you used? What is your experience with online tools? What ISTE NETS T standard would you consider this activity most closely matches and why? Create a link to your graphic. use the link tool and do not show the URL. Embed the graphic in your blog post. Embedding often requires you modify the size of the embedded artifact to not distort or become truncated.

Excellent drawing tool to use when needing to create a drawing that can be viewed from any computer. This would be an excellent way to create handouts for a classroom, or to create posters. I really like the drawing tool, and almost every single one of the buttons on the drawing tool are universal with other drawing tools. I like being able to change the color of the words, backgrounds, etc. My drawing can be found by Clicking Here.

The ISTE NETS T standard that I think most closely matches this activity is #3 - Model Digital-Age Work and Learning. (A) - Demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of currently knowledge to new technologies and situations.

Glogster

Assignment: Glogster

Due: June 8, 2010

Required Documentation:

Create a blog post that contains a link to your public glog and address the learning outcomes.

Learning Outcomes:

Q1. What is glog?

A1. A Glog is a poster that allows the individual to express themselves through creativity of their own. When a poster is created by an individual they can use images, graphics, sounds, etc., to make their poster unique. A Glog is used to express oneself, and maybe tell a story, or to illustrate who that person is and what he/she likes.

Q2. How might you use a glog in your class?

A2. A Glog can be used in a classroom as sort of an ice breaker tool for the students at the beginning of the year/semester. Because a Glog allows you to be creative in your own way, the students can create their own Glogs to express who they are, and then once finished, can share their Glogs with the rest of their classmates. This might be a way for the students to find out similarities amongst them and their friends.

Q3. What ISTE NETS T does the use of Glogster most likely correspond with in your opinion?

A3. I think that (2) Design and Develop Digital-Age Experiences and Assessments most closely relates to this activity. The subcategory that I think closely matches this activity would be (a) - design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity.

Q4. What is the problem (if any) with this program?

A4. I didn't really have any major problems with this program. The only thing I ran into was not having some of my pictures upload as quickly as others, which made me think I hadn't done it correctly. After this happened, I realized there's an uploader bar at the bottom telling you the upload progress of whatever you're uploading.

ISTE NETS T - #2 - Design and Develop Digital-Age Experiences and Assessments. (A) - Design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity.

Self-Portrait

Required Documentation:

Create a self-portrait. And create a blog post that contains - (1) some descriptive text - include what issues and/or questions you encountered and the solutions you employed to solve your issues; (2) include a link to the site you used to create the artifact; and (3) include the image you created in your blog post.

-Using the Picasso Head drawing tool was an experience for me. I had never used Picasso Head before, so I wasn't sure where to begin. I really liked being able to explore how to use Picasso Head to manipulate the various parts of the face that I put onto the canvas. I thought using the "color" tool was a neat way to add a personal touch to the self-portrait on the canvas. The website I used to create my self-portrait is Picasso Head. My self-portrait can be found using the following link:

Assignment: Snipping Tool

Due: June 7, 2010

Required Documentation:

Create a blog post that contains a snip you have taken that you could use to reinforce something you have learned or something you could teach that involves a snipped image.

- I chose to use the Snipping Tool to snip the front page of the VoiceThread website to reinforce something I have learned. VoiceThread is what we learned in the last activity, and I chose to use it again for the Snipping Tool activity because I really like the functions that the VoiceThread brings to the world of digital technology, both in and outside, a classroom.

ISTE NETS T - #2 - Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments. (C) - Customize and personalize learning activities to address students' diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources.

VoiceThread

Instructional TechnologyAssignment: VoiceThread

Due: June 4, 2010

Required Documentation:

Create a blog post that reflects on your experiences with VoiceThread including this activity? What ISTE NETS T would you consider this activity most closely matches and why?

- Prior to this activity, I had no experience using VoiceThread, and didn't even know what it was. Since completing the activity, I think that VoiceThread is a unique discussion feature, and can be utilized as an interesting way to answer questions, like we had to do for the assignment. I think since using the activity, I will incorporate VoiceThread into my classroom when I've completed my degree and am working in a classroom.

According to the ISTE NETS T standards, the one that most closely matches this activity, in my opinion, would be: (3) Model Digital-Age Work and Learning. ... From this category, I chose (b) as the one that most closely matches the activity: Collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success and innovation. I think the activity most closely matches this standard because we're incorporating new digital technologies into the classroom, which gives the students a new way to succeed since the way of using paper and pencil might not be their cup of tea. We're allowing them to experiment with different ways of learning so they're able to determine which way is the most successful for them in the long run.

Learning Outcomes:

Q1. What is a VoiceThread and how can they be used in any learning enterprise?

- VoiceThread is a tool that is used to have group conversations, and then have them stored in one place. The VoiceThread holds images, documents, and videos. A VoiceThread can be used in a learning environment to increase the knowledge of digital technologies, and to also bring into the classroom a variety of learning tools, and new ways to learn, without having to use paper and pencils.

ISTE NETS T -
(3) Model Digital-Age Work and Learning. (B) - Collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success and innovation.
